i have never looked at editing video the way its taught but rather as a composition of music.  even my cutting down process requires me to create all the different notes and tones i want to use.  once I have all that separated through a ruthless dilligent process that doesn't overlook a single sound, i make a musical composition.  And then i move frames forward and backward in musical timing until it feels right.  i'm honestly confused with how music videos are edited these days, they all seem to miss the point.  editing to me is making music.
